Serving up some wins
Sept. 4, 2025 By Keira Mercer
This past Saturday, the Eisenhower High School volleyball team competed in an early-season tournament that tested their skills, endurance, and teamwork against some tough opponents. The Tigers faced Maize South, Kapaun, Derby, Buhler and Garden City. For the Lady Tigers, it was more than just a chance to play; it was an opportunity to measure their growth, identify areas to improve, and come together as a team before the heart of the season begins.
The Tigers ended with a 2-3 record on the day. Taking wins against Derby and Buhler. Also taking losses from Kapaun, Maize South and Garden City.
Head Coach Shelby Allee said, “This weekend the girls played well with a serve receive that was really good with a pass rate of 2.3, which is insane.”
Allee and the girls have high expectations for this season, and they are ready for some season play.
“I expect us to compete for a league title and to also compete at substate,” she said.
The Lady Tigers showed plenty of fight on the court. From strong serves to long rallies, Eisenhower made it clear they are ready to compete this season. Even in matches where the scoreboard didn’t fall their way, the team’s energy and determination never faded. That resiliency, Coach Allee explained, is something she hopes to see all year.
“If we keep supporting each other and playing as one, I think we can surprise some people this year,” she said.
Senior Ava McNaught is optimistic that this season will be different since Coach Allee is back from her maternity leave.
“One word to describe this year's team would be determined,” she said. “Coach Allee is back and that this is gonna be such a good year for Eisenhower volleyball.”.
According to McNaught, she and the team have some big goals.
“Our biggest goal this season is to host substate and then advance to state,” she said.“ My part in this goal is to keep the team connected and to create a positive and encouraging environment.”
With the tournament now behind them, the Lady Tigers are shifting their focus to regular-season play. The team has been sharpening their defense, working on communication, and developing more consistency in their attack.
For Eisenhower, this season isn’t just about wins and losses—it’s about building a program that continues to grow stronger each year. With leaders like McNaught setting the tone and a coaching staff committed to development, Saturday’s tournament was only the beginning of their journey.
